According to www.topresume.com an article written by Natalia Authenrieth she provides “10 steps to Setting and Achieving Goals at Work”.
1.) Get clarity on your team structure.
2.) Talk to your boss. What can you do to make their job easier and make them look good?
3.) Focus on what you can control and have a plan for the rest.
4.) Think about your career path overall.
5.) Go beyond immediate tasks and ting of the big picture.
6.) Get clarity on what goal achievement would look like.
7.) Schedule periodic check-ins.
8.) Ask for support if you need it.
9.) Do a periodic comparison of your annual goals with your to-do-list.
10.) Track your accomplishments
When you are planning goals on your current job you want to understand the structure of your team in your job, and your department. You can find this in an organizational chart that is sometimes placed where staff can normally see it. An organizational chart is similar below:
You want to communicate with your supervisor you can inform them of your goals with the company. You can take tips and ask questions on how to make your supervisor’s job easier. The goal with all organizations’ the goal is that the staff assist each other to make the company look good.
You want to be able to focus on what you can control. You want to do only what you can do. If you are wanting to learn new things at work to make you more marketable at your job, ask questions. This demonstrates that you can learn new things.
You want to understand and begin finding pathways to where you want your career path to end overall. You can do this many diverse ways. You can volunteer for learning opportunities at your current job; or volunteer at organizations that you are able to learn new things to assist you to becoming marketable on your job or in your career path.
You want to schedule periodic check-ins, most organizations consider this annual or semi-annual employee evaluations, in the Human Service industry this is consider weekly or bi-weekly supervisions. You want to want to discuss your job, performance, any questions that you may have; and listen to anything your supervisor may say to assist you in your career growth.
Seek out a mentor at your current job, your supervisor or anyone in the industry that you feel you can learn and grow from. These mentors are those who do not mind teaching others how they are able to become successful. This mentor will help you with accountability, and support.
You can create a goal that you can see physically; this can be a Vision Board or a goal list beside it you want to create a to-do-list also with what you need to continue to work on and complete. When you reach a goal on this list you can cross it out; and then update it every time the list is almost completed.
Track your accomplishments. You can do this via a spreadsheet; or even check in a journal. When you have achieved an accomplishment then you are able to document this and try to reward yourself with something that you enjoy; this can be planning a spa day. This will help you to refocus and continue to plan for your next steps to your career journey.
These are steps for those who are already in their career journey, most people may not be in their career journey at this time. You may need to prepare to get there. If this is where you see yourself here are five steps for you according to https://www.indeed.com
